Moving off Airtable Interfaces without moving off Airtable
Bending Spoons announced its acquisition of Airtable on 4 August 2026 and closed it about a month later. Its previous acquisitions saw steep price rises and cuts to free tiers. Nothing has been announced for Airtable yet, but teams with Interfaces in front of clients and staff are looking for a plan that does not depend on what happens next.
This guide gives you one: Interfaces move to Emberblocks apps on the same base today, with two-way sync. If the pricing changes, the data is already mirrored in Postgres and you switch the source without touching the screens.
Builders are always free. Facts about Airtable on this page were last checked on against Airtable's own site. Tell us if something is out of date: hello@emberblocks.com.
What we know, dated
Airtable sold for roughly $1.285 billion enterprise value, a fraction of its 2021 valuation, while still growing revenue. Bending Spoons' post-acquisition pattern at Evernote (Pro plan from $37 to $250 a year, free tier capped at 50 notes) and WeTransfer (about three quarters of staff gone within two months) is public record. Whether Airtable follows it is not known as of the date on this page.
The sensible response is to keep using Airtable while making sure you are no longer locked to it.
Rebuild an Interface as an Emberblocks app
- 1
Connect the base
Add your Airtable base as a data source. Emberblocks mirrors every table into Postgres and starts a two-way sync: your edits push to Airtable within seconds, Airtable changes arrive through webhooks.
- 2
Map each Interface page to a view
Interface list pages become table or card blocks, record pages become record blocks with related lists, dashboards become stat and chart blocks, forms become forms. Ember can draft the set from a description.
- 3
Recreate the permissions
Interface editor and commenter seats become Emberblocks roles. Add per-user record filters where an Interface used current-user filters.
- 4
Move automations that matter
Airtable Automations you rely on can be rebuilt as workflows triggered by row changes or schedules. The rest can keep running in Airtable; the sync carries their results.
- 5
Publish and share
Publish a versioned snapshot. Give staff logins as app users; give clients public links or their own roles. Builders are never charged.
- 6
Keep the exit ready
The mirror is a normal Postgres schema. If you ever decide to leave Airtable, switch the app's source to the built-in database or your own Postgres and disconnect. The views do not change.
Interfaces feature to Emberblocks block

|---|---|---|
| List / grid page | Table or Cards block | filters, sort, search, inline edit, saved filters |
| Record detail page | Record block | field groups, related record lists, comments, activity |
| Dashboard | Stat and Chart blocks | counts, sums, grouped charts |
| Form page | Form view | validation, defaults, conditional fields |
| Kanban, calendar, timeline, gallery | Kanban, Calendar, Timeline, Cards blocks | same shapes |
| Current-user filters | per-user record filters | RECORD and user expressions |
| Editor / commenter seats | roles | view and field level |
| Shared views and forms | public links | no account needed |
What you get in Emberblocks
Your data, live
Start on a built-in database, your own Postgres (Supabase, Neon, RDS, anything that speaks Postgres) or an Airtable base. Apps read and write live rows, so there are no exports to keep in sync.
Blocks on a grid
Drag tables, cards, record pages, kanban boards, calendars, maps, timelines, charts, stats, forms, buttons, comments, activity feeds, file viewers, signatures, barcodes and embeds onto a grid and wire them to tables. What you arrange is exactly what your team gets.
Real field types
Fields include text, email, phone, URL, number, boolean, date, date-time, time, duration, select, multi-select, reference, multi-reference, image, file, signature, address and JSON. Barcode scanning and signatures work in the browser without a native app.
Workflows
Workflows run when a row is created, updated or deleted, on a schedule, or from a button; steps update records, send email, call webhooks, branch on conditions and run code.
Roles and permissions
Roles decide which views a user sees and which fields they can read or edit; app users can be loaded from a table in your own data.
Publishing like software
Every publish is a versioned snapshot you can inspect and roll back, with a stable and a latest channel.
Phones and offline
Published apps are responsive, install on a phone's home screen, and queue edits made offline until the connection is back.
AI where it helps
Ember drafts a first version of an app from a plain-language description, and end users can ask questions of the data in plain language when you turn it on.
Questions
- Do I have to stop using Airtable?
- No. The base stays the place your team edits. Emberblocks mirrors it and keeps both sides in sync. You can leave later if you decide to, but nothing requires it.
- What is the sync delay?
- Edits made in the app push to Airtable within seconds through a transactional outbox. Changes in Airtable arrive through Airtable's webhooks. Airtable limits its API to five requests per second per base, which is why the app reads the mirror rather than Airtable directly.
- How are seats different?
- Airtable charges per seat for editors of a base and Interfaces. Emberblocks never charges the people who build and prices paid plans by app users, so a portal with many logins is priced by the plan tier it fits, with no per-seat charge.
- How is Emberblocks priced?
- Builders are always free. Paid plans are priced by the number of people who sign in to your published apps: Starter $29, Pro $79 and Business $199 a month billed yearly. Every new workspace starts with a 14-day Pro trial, no card needed, and there is a free plan after that. Full details on the pricing page.
- What does Emberblocks not do yet?
- Custom domains, SSO and an Enterprise plan are not available yet. There is no live Google Sheets connector (import the sheet as CSV instead). Apps run in the browser and install to the home screen; there are no App Store or Play Store builds.
Try it on your own data.
Every workspace starts with a 14-day Pro trial without a card. You can also open a template in the editor first and sign up only when you want to keep it.
